London Weather


London enjoys a mild climate on average, generally no extremes of hot and cold; but it can be unpredictable, just in case remember to bring a lightweight raincoat for all eventualities.
London has a micro-climate product of the ‘urban heat island’ phenomenon, because of the city is packed with heated buildings and concrete roads the temperature is generally a couple degree warmer than the suburbs. Snow is relatively uncommon although light snowfall, is sometimes seen a few times a year. London weather is never so bad as to detract from all the great things to do in London
From June through September average daily high temperatures peak at over 20°C. The average temperature from July through August, the hottest months, is still only about 23°C although the peak temperature can be 30°C
Rain is guaranteed, it rains one day in three on average; London has an average precipitation of 583.6 mm (22.98 in) every year. The number of rainy days is fairly consistent throughout the year, with between 11 and 15 rainy days every month. Rains are heaviest in late autumn and winter, at between 70 to 80mm per month and lowest in March and April, 37mm per month. Never plan an outdoors event in advance, if rains and if you have to postpone your sightseeing, don’t worry, you will always find something to do, by example; you can spend a time in a nice dry London’s pub.
Summer Weather in London
London can be very pleasant in Summer with average high temperatures of 23°C and lows of 14°C, temperatures seldom rise above 25°C, so London has an average temperature of 18°C. But you should be prepared for eventualities. Rainfall in summer is around 50 to 60mm per month, making it very marginally the driest time of year, for this reason London can be hot and humid some days.
Winter Weather in London
In Winter, the average daily maximum temperature is 8°C, the overnight minimum is 2°C, but temperatures much into the minus are not common, making London milder than most nearby continental European capital cities. Winter days in London are cold but rarely below freezing and snow is not common – although February 2007 London experienced a couple of days of snowfall. An exceptionally cold Winter night in London may hit minus 10°C and around 4°C in the day.
Spring Weather in London
Seasons change gradually, at the early Spring we can still feel a few frost, while by late Spring one can start to feel the heat of the Summer. Spring is a time of unpredictable weather, sometimes it can be a sunny 20°C, other times it can be grey and damp, but mainly Spring has mild days and cool evenings with frequent but brief showers. Rainfall is around 50 to 60mm per month.
Autumn Weather in London
During early Autumn, in September, we can enjoy warm sunny days of an average daily high of 19°C, though by October, weather is starting to cool and rainfall increases slightly. The chilly weather begins to appear in the early November. Late Autumn is statistically the wettest period of year in London.
