Nightlife in London


London’s nightlife is the most vibrant and diverse in Europe, always in a state of flux, from the pulsating nightclubs, hotel bars to the traditional old London taverns; there is something to offer for everyone on any given night of the week.
You will find literally thousands of night spots across the capital, although most popular are located at the Leicester Square, Covent Garden and West End, where the trendy Soho remains one of the coolest places to enjoy the night, Soho is also the best place for gay hotspots. Upper Street in Islington (in the North) is a dynamic spot crowded with tourist and friendly Londoners.
For exclusive bars, head to Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove, where one can find elegant and fashionable bars and pubs. Brixton is home to salsa dance clubs and live music venues, Clapham in the South have excellent local pubs and bars. Camden in the north London is very popular for its live music pubs open to all and sundry. The Shoreditch and Old Street area in the East London offers a hip alternative, a style that has extend along to Brick Lane.
Music fans are also very well catered for in London, night clubs can be a great place to see bands starting their careers, major artists on tour, resident musicians and resident DJs, in fact, some of the world’s best DJs play in London and much of the currently popular techno and electronic music originated in London clubs. Whatever your musical tastes it is easy to find a venue that satisfies you, London’s music scene is immense, covering genres from Jazz to Gothic Metal, passing by Rock; some great venues to listen live music include the Brixton Academy; the Jazz Café; and the cavernous Wembley Arena.
Since November 2005, there are no any fixed closing times, but most pubs and bars do not to apply this and still close at 11:00 pm, clubs open at 10:00 pm and continue open until 03:00 am during the week and 05:00 at weekends.
The officially permitted drinking age is 18 years; most clubs charge an admission fee; dress codes may vary; drink prices can be very expensive and vary from night club to night club. Some night clubs are members-only, those tend to be celebrity night clubs, though celebrity sightings at non-exclusive London night spots occur habitually.
Night clubs are constantly coming and going as the trends continue to change, London night clubs may be IN one week and OUT the next. Perennials names of the nightlife scene include the Ministry of Sound, Fabric, Ronnie Scott's, The End, Pacha and Heaven. But London nightlife is not just about dance clubs, London has a plethora of cultural options. London is home of the world’s best theatre scene. London's Theatre District is legendary for its celebrated productions such as Les Misérables and The Mouse Trap, as well as for its alternative productions. The most important theatres outside the West End include the Royal Court, the National Theatre, the Barbican Centre and the Old Vic to name just a small number of them.
A Night at the orchestra is a world-class pleasure in London; the city has five major orchestras: The London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, and the BBC Philharmonic. There are also smaller music ensembles and operas that can be enjoyed as well.
