Gay & Lesbian in London

London has the most flourishing gay scene in the UK, since the past decade the city is home of one of the largest lesbian and gay community in Europe. In December 2006, gay and lesbian sex couples were given the right to civil partnerships. Numerous gay men and women have made London their home; almost every corner of London now has a gay bar or two, it’s frequent to hold hands and kiss in public anywhere in the centre of town.
The city offers one of the most diverse night life scenes in the world; the centre of the gay scene in London is Soho, where Old Compton Street, Rupert Street and the surrounding area boast a host of gay bars, clothing shops, cafes, art galleries, cinemas and restaurants. Additionally, Earl’s Court in the west, Islington and Stoke Newington in the north, Hoxton and Shoreditch (in Hackney) in the East London and Vauxhall and Clapham in the south have been developed a great status for their gay and lesbian communities, in fact, almost every part of the city is home to congenial spots for gay visitors.
During the London’s Pride Festival, held every year in June/July, there are hundreds of events, these include film screenings, sporting and arts events, theatre, comedy and cabaret performances, debates and concerts.
You can check gay and lesbian guides such as Time Out, the Pink Paper, the G3 Magazine or the Gay Times for details of what’s on where you visit London.
